Who are the Judges?

  • Xiao Han (Chief Judge, Funkie Monkies Productions / FM Pop Music School)

Xiao Han

Xiaohan's world revolves around music. A professional lyricist as well as founder and director of music production studio, Funkie Monkies Productions Pte Ltd. Xiaohan sees her duty as imparting her own passion and talent for the art to aspiring lyricists. Xiaohan herself began writing lyrics as a student and sold her first lyrics to Taiwanese singer Denise Ruan in 1998.

Xiaohan has also written lyrics for a constellation of stars such as Stefanie Sun, Tanya Chua, A* Mei, Jacky Cheung, Sandy Lam, Gigi Leong, SHE and many more. She also regularly works with local Musician/artistes Eric Ng and Tanya Chua.

  • Mr Fan Dong Kai (Artistic Director, Chingay Parade)

Fan Dong Kai

As Artistic Producer for PA Talents, Fan Dong Kai has choreographed major events such as the Chingay Parade and the National Day Parade, as well as a number of other milestone events in the history of the People's Association.

A graduate of the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy, Dong Kai became Guest Choreographer of the Houston Ballet in the United States in 1988, before joining the People's Association Dance Company in 1994. Dong Kai has earned international acclaim for his dancing, winning many awards and competitions. His choreography has been staged in ballet competitions in USA and Switzerland and at various global festivals held in Asia, Europe and the USA. He also won four awards in the 6th China International Dance Competition in 2004.

  • Ms Zhang Jie

Zhang Jie

A graduate from the Guangzhou Music Conservatory, Zhang Jie has been teaching vocal since 1996. She has won several vocal and singing awards in China and Singapore and achieved first and/or second prizes from various singing competitions.Zhang Jie has recently won a prize at the First International Opera Competition held in Hong Kong. Her voice is crisp and clear, and full of emotions.

  • Ms Serene Koong

Serene Koong As a child, Serene loved to sing and enjoyed the chemistry and energy of performing live with fellow musicians and have been singing since her University days. She then moved on to performing in pubs (Balaclava, Indochine, Oosh, Barstop, Wala Wala) and weddings and penned her first song by chance and fell in love with song writing - an outlet that allowed her to translate her emotions into melodies. In 2006, she enrolled herself in the first batch of composing class at FM Pop Music School and was subsequently signed as a song writer under Funkie Monkies Productions. Deeply inspired by the founders (Eric Ng and Xiaohan) of Funkie Monkies Productions and FM's instructors and artistes (Jim Lim, Wu Jiahui). Serene felt very blessed to have been given many wonderful opportunities to learn and grow as a song-writer with Funkie Monkies Productions.

Not only will Serene be one of the judges during the Finals on Sunday, 14 November 2010 at Tampines 1, she will also perform live at the contest. Come check out your favourite singer from 5pm to 8pm at Tampines 1!
