PA YOUTH MOVEMENT

The First and biggest display of human powered structures in Chingay history! Each organization, representing different community sectors, (Geylang Serai Constituency, PA Youth Movement, Hindu Endowment Board, City Harvest and Kowloon Club) develops and presents an innovative, self-designed performing item with a 10-metre long structure as the highlight and mainstay of its item. With the theme of “Unity, Strength and Vibrancy”, 100 – 200 performers will demonstrate utmost team spirit as they push, pull or carry the structures to tilt or rotate it in a 360-degree turn! Below is an introduction to the performing item brought to you by the 5 organisations:

Accompanying the main structure are 4 joyous wedding celebrations filled with fun and laughter. Involving schools, students, volunteers and grassroots leaders of all races from the Geylang Serai constituency, this is truly a vibrant Geylang Serai, in rhythm, in harmony – celebrating multi-racial harmony amidst our rich, vibrant and diverse culture!

2) KOWLOON CLUB

buns and toss them to the audience for good luck!

3) HINDU ENDOWMENTS BOARD (HEB)
Choreographer: Mrs Neila

Synopsis:
Get acquainted with the enchanting beauty and colours of the Indian heritage as the performers from the Hindu Endowment Board showcase their majestic chariot, colourful artifacts and glittering costumes.

4) IT’S ALL ABOUT YOUTHS!
Performed by: PA Youth Movement Artistic Producer: Annie Pek Choreographer: Mr Farhan Hassan

Synopsis:
The “Burst of Energy” performance depicts the unity of youth in harmony as the young volunteers come together to carry, push and pull the float. It is a representation of the youth being able and ready to face and withstand challenges in uniformed teamwork. Many faces, many influences, many hurdles; coming in different heights, different sizes, different background; all with one focus, one thought, one goal!

The segment features explosive and action packed performances with in-line skating,
hip hop dancing, yo-yo display and cheerleading acts by interest groups formed by PAYM youth members as we celebrate youthfulness and overcoming challenges with this “Burst of Energy” performance– It’s All About YOUths!

These youths will also be donned in bright-coloured costumes of bright blue, luminous orange, lime green, hot pink with sliver, each piece different on its own with underlying colours that signify one in unison.

The PAYM float comprises three tiers. The top tier showcases the PAYM logo with a yellow ‘Y’ figure, with its outstretched arms, representing a confident youth embracing
the future with hope. Yellow is used for the figure representing vigour and energy. The diamond within which the letters ‘PAYM’ are set against, depicts the shape of the island
of Singapore. It also depicts the potential of youth that can become bright and brilliant when polished. The red heart represents warmth, passion and beliefs.

The second tier is formed by the PAYM tagline: It’s All About YOUths! surrounded by
a ring of lights, signifying the bright future and possibilities for youth.

The base tier will feature images of youth (primarily schooling and working youth), engaged in a myriad of activities ranging from water sports to adventure, arts & culture
to performing arts etc.

The highlight of the structure will be a youth breaking through a tunnel-like feature in the middle of the PAYM structure, awakening the performers on board the float to life

Description about PAYM
The People's Association Youth Movement (PAYM) models as an organisation that aims to integrate fresh and new initiatives to meet the needs of our youths (12 – 35 years old). They seek to keep abreast with ever changing youth patterns by extending outreach to youths through a wide range of activities such as community service projects, life skills and lifestyle programmes, adventure and sports, arts and cultural activities. More importantly, PAYM’s programmes and activities create common space for youths regardless of race, religion and educational backgrounds to interact and bond.
